6 availableBring your parents to visit
B-1/B-2 tourist visas for parents are one of the most common parallel needs during a long PERM wait. Graduation, new baby, or just a visit. Here's how to prepare their DS-160 and interview.
DS-160 Prep
Collect everything you need before opening Form DS-160. The session times out, so arrive fully prepared with all your details in one place. Nothing leaves your device.
H-4 EAD renewal timing
If your spouse is on H-4 and has an EAD, file the renewal 6 months before expiry. A gap in EAD means a gap in work authorization, and it can take 3 to 5 months to process.
Can I travel while PERM is pending?
Yes. PERM is a labor certification, not an immigration status. You can travel freely on your H-1B while PERM is pending, as long as your H-1B visa stamp is valid.
Check your case status
DOL's FLAG system and USCIS's case status portal let you check where your application stands. Bookmark both and check monthly, especially around the expected decision window.
What if I change jobs?
Job portability under AC21 lets you change employers after your I-140 has been approved for 180+ days, as long as the new job is in the same or similar occupational category.
